Review of the New Tarte Shape Tape Radiant Concealer

Tarte just recently came out with a new concealer, a second version of the Tarte Shape Tape that has a radiant, medium coverage finish. A radiant, medium coverage concealer is particularly useful for a natural, no-makeup makeup look as it should blend in nicely with ones’ natural complexion without being too heavy. The concealer itself is quite pricy (42$ CAD for 10 ml), so I was expecting pretty decent results.

I did end up ordering online, but conveniently, Tarte has online shade matching where you can upload an image and it will shade match you (best results in daylight). I already estimated what shade would fit me best, and it ended up matching with what the website predicted, which was 16N (fair-light neutral). Positively, the shade range is very diverse, and they also sell white and black concealers to help create a more customizable shade.

On first look, the applicator is quite jumbo which I love, especially for a quick no-makeup makeup. In terms of the smell, there is a floral scent that I could smell after application on the face but it was mild and similar to jasmine. I personally liked the scent but if that’s something you might have an aversion to its good to be aware. Some of the perfume ingredients at the bottom of the ingredient list include Benzyl Salicylate, Hexyl Cinnamal, Limonene, Hydroxycitronellal, Geraniol, Amyl Cinnamal, Linalool, Fragrance/Parfum, which are all related to the floral scent.

However, the products does have beneficial skin ingredients, like niacinamide which is good for brightening and preventing acne. In addition, the product has a variety of antioxidants including Hippophae Rhamnoides Fruit Oil and Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, which are moisturizing and anti-inflammatory.

On to the review of the product, here is my eye before and after:

The radiant finish helped to create a natural, glowy, skin-like finish. In addition, the concealer was lightweight and extremely easy to blend with a finger. I also liked how it immediately brightened up my under-eyes. However, there were some cons to this product, unfortunately due to the luminous finish, some of my eye texture was highlighted instead of concealed. Furthermore, the concealer is buildable for more coverage, but I found that more product settled in my natural eye creases. In my opinion, the concealer is great for adding overall face brightness, and covering mild discolouration and eye bags. A more full coverage concealer may be beneficial to those with more deep eye bags and discolouration to prevent cakeyness with buildup.

I also provided pictures of my cheek blemishes and dark spots to show how the concealer looks overtop of textured skin:

The concealer was very comfortable and pretty on the skin, and could be worn on its own without foundation with proper colour matching. It covered up the pink discolouration with very minimal product.

Overall, I think the concealer is worth it in terms of a nice no-makeup makeup concealer for people who need minimal coverage and want a little extra brightness.
